Sowing the Seeds of Life

The Book of Rites records:

In the first month of spring, the people offer sacrifices to the earth.

For centuries, spring planting has symbolized peoples respect for nature. Today, it also offers children a meaningful way to experience and understand life.

01 Seeds as a Beginning: Discovering the Power of Life

With the gentle warmth of March, nature quietly enters our classroom. In the planters by the window, children plant peanut and vegetable seeds, filling the classroom with the scent of fresh soil.

When the teacher presents a tray filled with seeds, the children gather around with curiosity. A discussion begins: How can we choose the best seeds?

The children observe the seeds colors and shapes. Seeds that are plump, round, and smooth often hold the strongest vitality. They gently touch them, feeling their firmness and weight with their fingertips and discovering the life hidden within each small seed.

Carefully, the children place the seeds into their seedling containers, add fresh water, and cover them softly with soil. In this simple activity, they begin to experience the meaning of patience, care, and responsibility.

02 Learning Through Inquiry: Exploring the Secrets of Growth

As the children learn about plant growth, they begin a hydroponic cabbage project.

Working in pairs, they carefully select healthy seedlings and prepare the containers together. The children provide clean water for the plants and observe how they grow over time.

Through this shared activity, they experience the joy of caring for living things while also developing a sense of cooperation and responsibility.

03 Observing Closely: Discovering Natures Wonders

Observation becomes an important part of the childrens learning. Using magnifying glasses, they look closely at the veins of leaves and the patterns on flower buds.

These quiet moments of observation help children notice the small wonders of nature and deepen their curiosity about the world around them.

On this Tree Planting Day, the children plant more than seeds. They plant curiosity about nature, respect for life, and an understanding that growth takes time and care.

By touching the soil and observing the changes around them, they learn to appreciate nature and develop patience and compassion as they grow.

Every seed planted today carries the promise of tomorrow’s growth—for both the plants and the children who care for them.
